In short
- Lumeno asks you one question a day. You write, or you do not.
- What you write belongs to you. We never publish it, never sell it, and claim no rights over it.
- Lumeno is for people aged 16 and over. That is section 5.
- The periodic readings are generated automatically by artificial intelligence. They can be wrong, and they are not medical advice, not psychological care, and not counselling. This matters, and it is detailed in sections 10 and 11.
- Lumeno does not monitor what you write and triggers no alert. Emergency numbers are in section 11.
- Using Lumeno is free. The premium subscription is optional and covered by the terms of sale.
1. Purpose and acceptance
These terms govern the use of the Lumeno mobile app and its associated web pages. By installing or using Lumeno, you accept these terms in full. If you do not accept them, do not use the app, and uninstall it.
They are completed by the privacy policy and, if you subscribe, by the terms of sale. These three documents form a single whole.
2. Publisher

3. Hosting
This site is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Avenue #4133, Covina, CA 91723, United States. The app database is hosted in the European Union, under the conditions described in the privacy policy.
4. The service
Lumeno is a daily introspection app. It offers:
- one question a day, the same for everyone, returning each year on the same date;
- a space to answer in writing, and to attach one or more feelings to your answer;
- a literary quote extending the question;
- the ability to reread everything you have written, year after year, with no time limit and no subscription;
- periodic readings, weekly, monthly and yearly, that interpret what you wrote over the period.
Questions and quotes are written or validated by hand. They are never generated automatically. The periodic readings, on the other hand, are: see section 10.
Lumeno is a personal journal service. It is not a social network, not a health service, not a backup service, and not a digital safe.
5. Age requirement
Lumeno is reserved for people aged at least 16. By using the app, you declare that you are 16 or older.
This limit is not a formality. Lumeno is a private journal: you may write deeply personal things in it, and those texts are sent to an artificial intelligence provider to compose your readings. We have chosen not to open that processing to people under 16, whatever threshold applies in their country.
If you are the legal guardian of someone under 16 who has used Lumeno, write to contact@lumeno-app.com: we will delete the account and all of its data without delay.
6. Your account
On installation, Lumeno creates an anonymous account for you. No personal information is requested. You can then attach an email address and a password to it, solely so you can find your writings again if you change device.
You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for access to your device. Any activity carried out from your account is deemed to be yours. An anonymous account contains nothing that identifies you, so it cannot be recovered if you lose access to your device. That is the accepted price of requiring no sign-up, and it is why we offer to attach an email address.
You can delete your account at any time from the app settings, or from this page if you no longer have the app. Deletion is immediate and final.
7. What you write belongs to you
You remain the sole owner of the rights to your reflections. We claim no ownership over what you write.
You grant us only the technical permission strictly necessary to run the service: storing your texts, displaying them back to you, and sending them to the artificial intelligence provider that composes your readings, under the conditions described in the privacy policy. This permission is non-exclusive, free of charge, limited to what the service requires, and it ends when you delete your account.
Your writings are never published, never shared with other users, never sold, and never used for advertising. Lumeno has no social features.
8. What you write is your responsibility
Your journal is your space, and we do not read it. That also means the content you put there is yours alone to answer for.
You agree not to write in Lumeno:
- unlawful content, in particular content infringing the rights of a third party or punishable by law;
- data about a third party that you have no right to process, bearing in mind that this data will be sent to the artificial intelligence provider described in section 10;
- information you are not allowed to disclose, for instance under professional secrecy or a confidentiality undertaking.
If a third party brings a claim against us because of content you wrote or a breach of these terms on your part, you bear the consequences and indemnify us against the resulting claims, within the limits permitted by law.
9. Lumeno's intellectual property
The questions, the monthly theme texts, the selection of quotes, the Lumeno brand, the interface and the graphic elements are protected. You may use them within the normal use of the app, but not extract, reproduce, or redistribute them outside it without permission.
Quotes come from public domain works, or are translated by us from public domain texts.
In particular, you may not decompile the app, circumvent its protections, or extract its editorial content in an automated or systematic way, including for the purpose of training an artificial intelligence model.
10. The readings are produced by artificial intelligence
Your reading of the week, your letter of the month and your book of the year are automatically generated content, produced by an artificial intelligence system. No human being reviews them before you receive them.
To compose them, the text of your reflections, the attached feelings, the questions asked and the theme of the month are sent to an artificial intelligence provider. Before your very first reading, the app asks for your explicit agreement to that transfer, and nothing leaves until you have given it. The details of that processing, including what is sent and what is not, are in sections 4 and 5 of the privacy policy.
A reading is an interpretation, not a finding. It may contain approximations, misreadings, connections you would not make yourself, or wording that does not fit you. We do not guarantee its accuracy, its relevance, or its consistency from one period to the next. It is offered as an imperfect mirror of your own words, to take or to leave.
The artificial intelligence writes neither the questions nor the quotes, and it never addresses you directly. If a reading strikes you as out of place, you can report it from within the app: see section 13.
11. What Lumeno is not
Lumeno is not a health service. The periodic readings have no diagnostic, therapeutic or medical value.
The readings composed by the app are a rereading of your own words, meant to give you some distance. They are not medical advice, a diagnosis, psychological care, therapy, or professional counselling of any kind. They are in no way a substitute for the support of a health professional, and no health decision should be taken or delayed on the basis of them.
Lumeno does not monitor what you write. The app does not detect situations of distress, triggers no alert, notifies no one, and is in no way a monitoring, rescue or emergency system. Nobody reads your journal in real time.
If you are going through a difficult time, if you have suicidal thoughts or if your mental health is deteriorating, reach out to a professional or an emergency service. In France, 3114 is the national suicide prevention line, free and reachable 24 hours a day; 15 and 112 are the emergency numbers. In the United States and Canada, call or text 988. In the United Kingdom, call 116 123 (Samaritans). Elsewhere, contact your local emergency number.
12. Acceptable use
By using Lumeno, you agree not to:
- attempt to access another user's data, or to circumvent security measures;
- disrupt the service, in particular through massive automated requests;
- systematically extract the editorial content of the app;
- use the app through an automated tool, an emulator or a modified client;
- resell, sublicense or make the service available to a third party;
- use the service for unlawful purposes.
What you write in your journal is subject to no human moderation and to no automated compliance scanning: it is your space, and we do not read it. The only exception is the report described in section 13, which you trigger yourself.
13. Reporting a reading
If a reading produced by the app strikes you as shocking, inappropriate or wrong, you can report it in two taps from the screen where it is displayed.
A report sends us a copy of the reported text, so we can read it, act on it, and fix what needs fixing. This is the only situation in which a text drawn from your journal is read by a human, and it requires your own action. The processing of these reports is described in section 3 of the privacy policy.
14. Availability, changes and force majeure
We do our best to keep the service available, without being able to guarantee uninterrupted access. Interruptions may occur for maintenance, updates, or because of our technical providers.
Lumeno relies on third-party services we do not control: hosting, app stores, the artificial intelligence provider, networks. We are not responsible for their failures, their policy changes or their discontinuation, nor for events of force majeure within the meaning of article 1218 of the French Civil Code.
The app evolves. Features may be added, changed or removed. We commit to never removing free access to your own writings: rereading what you have written will always be possible without a subscription.
Should we permanently discontinue the service, we would tell you in the app and leave you a reasonable period, of at least thirty days, to retrieve your writings before they are deleted.
15. Suspension and termination
In the event of a clear breach of sections 8, 9 or 12, we may suspend or close an account. Except in an emergency, where a third party's rights are at stake, or where the law requires otherwise, we will tell you beforehand if we have a way to contact you, and give you the chance to respond.
You may stop using Lumeno and delete your account at any time, without reason and without cost. Closing an account does not cancel a subscription taken out through an app store: see section 7 of the terms of sale.
16. Liability
Lumeno is provided as is. We owe an obligation of means, not of result. We do not guarantee that the service will be free of errors, nor that it will meet particular expectations you may have formed.
We cannot be held liable for indirect damages arising from use of the app, nor for damage resulting from use that does not comply with these terms, from a fault in your device or connection, or from the act of a third party.
These limitations apply to the extent permitted by law. Nothing in these terms restricts the rights guaranteed to you as a consumer, nor our liability in cases of wilful misconduct, gross negligence or personal injury.
17. Backing up your writings
You are advised not to treat Lumeno as the only place where your writings are kept. Despite our backups, no technical solution is infallible, and Lumeno is not a backup service.
You can obtain a copy of all your data at any time, in a machine-readable format, free of charge and without a subscription, by writing to contact@lumeno-app.com.
18. Personal data
The processing of your data is described in the privacy policy, which forms an integral part of these terms.
19. Changes to these terms
These terms may be amended, in particular to reflect a change in the service or in the law. The last updated date appears at the top of this page. In the event of a substantial change, you will be informed in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Lumeno after that notice constitutes acceptance. If the change does not suit you, you can delete your account.
20. Miscellaneous
Severability. If a clause of these terms is held void, unwritten or unenforceable, the remaining clauses stay in full force.
No waiver. Not invoking a clause at a given time does not amount to waiving the right to rely on it later.
Assignment. We may transfer these terms, and the service, to a third party, in particular where the business is sold. Your rights would not be reduced, and you would be informed in the app. Any data transfer would be governed by the privacy policy.
Language. These terms exist in French and in English. In the event of a discrepancy in interpretation, the French version prevails.
Entire agreement. These terms, the privacy policy and, where applicable, the terms of sale express the entirety of our agreement and replace any earlier statement.
21. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law. If you habitually reside in another country, this choice does not deprive you of the protection afforded by the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.
In the event of a disagreement, write first to contact@lumeno-app.com: most situations are settled that way.
If our answer does not satisfy you, you may use a consumer mediator free of charge. As publisher, we have joined the following scheme:

Referring a matter to the mediator requires that you first tried to settle the disagreement directly with us, through a written complaint.
You retain the right to bring the matter before the competent court of your place of residence.
