In short

Lumeno asks you one question a day. You write, or you do not.
What you write belongs to you. We never publish it, never sell it, and claim no rights over it.
The readings produced by the app are not medical advice, not psychological care, and not counselling. This matters, and it is detailed in section 7.
Using Lumeno is free. The premium subscription is optional and covered by the terms of sale.

1. Purpose

These terms govern the use of the Lumeno mobile app and its related web pages. By using Lumeno, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

2. Publisher

3. The service

Lumeno is a daily introspection app. It offers:

one question a day, the same for everyone, returning every year on the same date;
a space to answer it in writing, and to attach one or more feelings to your answer;
a literary quote extending the question;
re-reading everything you have written, year after year, with no time limit and no subscription;
periodic readings, weekly, monthly and yearly, interpreting what you wrote during the period.

Questions and quotes are written or validated by hand. They are never generated automatically.

4. Your account

On installation, Lumeno creates an anonymous account for you. No personal information is requested. You may then attach an email address and a password, solely to recover your writing if you change devices.

You are responsible for keeping your password confidential. Since an anonymous account holds nothing that could identify you, it cannot be recovered if you lose access to your device. That is the accepted trade-off for requiring no sign-up.

You may delete your account at any time from the app settings, or from this page if you no longer have the app. Deletion is immediate and permanent.

5. What you write belongs to you

You remain the sole owner of the rights to your reflections. We claim no ownership over what you write.

You grant us only the technical permission strictly needed to run the service: storing your texts, displaying them back to you, and sending them to the artificial intelligence provider that composes your readings, under the conditions described in the privacy policy. This permission ends when you delete your account.

Your writing is never published, never shared with other users, never sold, and never used for advertising. Lumeno has no social features.

6. Lumeno's intellectual property

The questions, the monthly theme texts, the selection of quotes, the Lumeno brand, the interface and the graphic elements are protected. You may use them within the normal use of the app, but not extract, reproduce or redistribute them outside of it without permission.

Quotes come from public domain works, or are translated by us from public domain texts.

7. What Lumeno is not

Lumeno is not a health service. The periodic readings have no diagnostic, therapeutic or medical value.

The readings composed by the app are a re-reading of your own words, meant to give you perspective. They do not constitute medical advice, a diagnosis, psychological care, therapy, or professional counselling of any kind. They are in no way a substitute for the support of a health professional.

If you are going through a difficult time, if you have suicidal thoughts or if your mental health is deteriorating, reach out to a professional or an emergency service. In France, 3114 is the national suicide prevention line, free and reachable 24 hours a day. Elsewhere, contact your local emergency number.

8. Acceptable use

By using Lumeno, you agree not to:

attempt to access another user's data, or to bypass security measures;
disrupt the service, in particular through massive automated requests;
systematically extract the app's editorial content;
use the service for unlawful purposes.

What you write in your journal is subject to no human moderation: it is your space, and we do not read it.

9. Availability and changes

We do our best to keep the service available, without being able to guarantee uninterrupted access. Interruptions may happen for maintenance, updates, or because of our technical providers.

The app evolves. Features may be added, changed or removed. We commit to never removing free access to your own writing: re-reading what you wrote will always be possible without a subscription.

10. Suspension

In the event of a clear breach of section 8, we may suspend or close an account. Except in an emergency or where the law requires otherwise, we will tell you beforehand if we have a way to reach you.

11. Liability

Lumeno is provided as is. We do not guarantee the service will be free of errors. We cannot be held liable for indirect damages resulting from use of the app.

These limitations apply to the extent permitted by law. Nothing in these terms restricts your rights as a consumer, nor our liability in cases of gross negligence or personal injury.

You are encouraged not to treat Lumeno as the only place where your writing is kept. Despite our backups, no technical solution is infallible.

12. Personal data

How your data is processed is described in the privacy policy, which forms an integral part of these terms.

13. Changes to these terms

These terms may change. The date of the latest update appears at the top of this page. In case of a substantial change, you will be informed in the app. Continuing to use Lumeno after that notice constitutes acceptance.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law.

In the event of a dispute, please first write to contact@lumeno.app: most situations are resolved that way. Failing an agreement, you may use a consumer mediator free of charge, or refer to the European online dispute resolution platform: ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

You keep the right to bring the matter before the competent court of your place of residence.
